Abstract
Background & Aims: It is essential to have instruments for assessing functional and cognitive status among older adults to prevent conditions affecting their functional abilities. One of these instruments that is widely used in the clinical evaluations of the elderly population is the Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ). Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the translated version of the FAQ among Persian older adults.
Materials and Methods: The standard translation/back-translate method was applied to translate the English version of the FAQ into Persian. A panel of experts and specialists investigated the face and content validity of the Persian version. McDonald’s Omega coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were also applied to assess the internal consistency reliability. The confirmatory factor analysis was used to assess the factor structure of FAQ among a sample of 200 Persian older adults residing in Yazd, Iran.
Results: Based on the results obtained, McDonald’s Omega coefficient and ICC were measured at 0.87 and 0.95, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the single factor model (RMSEA=0.13, CFI=0.98, SRMSR=0.078, NFI=0.95, GFI=0.96, AGFI=0.93).
Conclusion: The Persian version of the FAQ had an appropriate validity and reliability. Therefore, this questionnaire can be used in clinical practice and research for assessing functional activities among Iranian older adults.
